The Mile-High City may be better known for the Broncos and Rocky Mountains, but Denver also has a bustling arts community, replete with plenty of live theater selections for patrons to take in. From amateurs to Broadway veterans, the theater scene offers something for everyone.

The Denver Center for the Performing Arts produces shows through two different tracks, from limited-run engagements to nationally touring productions. Classic shows like Cats and Fiddler on the Roof can be seen this year, as can newer offerings such as Legally Blonde and In the Heights, which won four Tony Awards in 2008. Younger patrons will surely enjoy The 101 Dalmations Musical and Shrek the Musical.

In the mood for something more interactive? Visit the Adams Mystery Playhouse where you'll get dinner and a murder mystery all in one fun-filled evening.

Need a bit more drama in your life? Hop over to the Hunger Artists Ensemble Theatre which has won awards from fans and critics alike or go to the Curious Theatre for the world premiere of Home By Dark or one of the Pulitzer-Prize winning productions that fills their schedule.

The Denver Civic Theatre offers a mash-up of art and off-beat performance in their Golden Triangle Arts District locale, while the Paragon Theatre focuses on politically inclined pieces and Su Teatro brings a multi-cultural experience.

If you're in LoDo (Lower Downtown Denver) and feel like laughing, pop into the Impulse Theatre for some improv comedy. Get your tickets ahead of time, though, because shows are often sold out. Rattlebrain Theatre Company also does improv over in the historic D&F Clock Tower.
